It has taken me a few weeks to not only organize the photos from our trip for this post but to process the things we saw and experienced during our 2 weeks in India. When we returned to Vancouver, people would ask me what the highlight was, and I would draw a blank. Except the blank looked more like a splatter of the most vivid colors, characters, smells, with sounds of a million horns honking at once. There was a constant stream of surprise (or shock in some cases), neurons firing at every turn. My brain began to feel like a camera in burst mode, a hundred frames per minute each capturing something completely new to me. India is a trip I’ve been wanting to do since I started designing jewelry 14 years ago when I also learned that the city of Jaipur is pretty much the gemstone capital of the world. When I found out the city also happens to be painted pink, I was really sold!

My life revolves around gemstones- so naturally, this is a trip I had to do, especially at a time I was craving a new perspective in general. My husband Kris and I travelled for two weeks, mainly in the Northern region of Rajasthan.

The people were the highlight of the trip. The educational aspect of the trip was a surprise. I would find myself learning about the country’s fascinating history, culture and religion from so many sources along the way.
I’ve been asked a lot what camera I use (iphone 7+ and Canon 5D with either my Sigma Art 50mm or Canon 70-200mm lens) But what I realized is when it comes to travel, it’s not about the equipment, it’s about being on the bolder side and pushing your limits to place yourself in unique situations. To my husband’s dismay, at any moment you could find me running across a highway, walking down an unknown alley, or forgoing time to relax to instead walk across a vast field to get to a subject. Gotta get the shot!
