Today is a very special day to all of us at Leah Alexandra. International Women's Day represents a time to appreciate all the women who made it possible to do what we love. Our studio is fueled by 100% girl-power and we're proud be surrounded by such talented ladies on a daily basis. To pay homage to some of the women that have inspired us, we got together and picked some trailblazers (past and present) that make us feel empowered to say we're among them as women.
Meryl Streep has always been a quiet force, mastering her craft and shocking everybody since day one. She carries herself with an attitude that says 'I'm lovely until I'm not' and has managed to avoid the scandal that surrounds most of Hollywood. As if we weren't already obsessed, her 2017 Golden Globes Speech brought tears to our eyes and made us proud to be from the same planet as her.
Lady power designer Rachel Comey, aside from serving MAJOR looks every season, is a champion of women's (and all around human) rights in the best of ways. Her clothing allows women to feel empowered while being comfortable in their own skin. Her runway shows and campaigns use women and men of all shapes and ages, reminding us that style isn't bound by looks.
Princess Diana was a feminist in her own right, slyly defying the expectations and conventions imposed on her by her status. She forged her own path and wouldn't be told what to do or how to hold herself - she had that covered. Her style and candid personality will forever be ingrained in what it means to be a woman.
A 15 time Grammy winning Champion; she writes all her own music and has always walked to the beat of her own drum. Her newly adopted beauty commitment is also making us rethink what it means to be glamorous - sans makeup and hair routine, she's always fresh, dewy, and glowing.
Chef Niki Nakayama of N/Naka (her LA restaurant) is revered as being one of the most sought after chefs in the biz. Not just as a female chef - but as a chef. Period. She prefers to cook behind closed doors so that her food isn't judged by her or her female kitchen staff's gender. Coming from traditional Japanese training AKA the ultimate boys club, she had to prove herself and rise to the top by simply being the best.
We hope you hold all the powerful ladies in your life extra tight today and tel them how much you love them. PS, did we say that we love and appreciate all of you?
Xx, the Leah Alexandra team
